The Business

Willis Towers Watson’s GSS team is dedicated to serving the needs of the headquarters of our multinational clients. Operating in the global market place means multinational companies face a variety of different business, cultural, language and regulatory environments.

Our GSS helps these companies navigate these challenges. We advise multinational companies on certain specialist topics where the GSS has unique experience, and we also act as a single point of contact to help solve client questions where we draw on the expertise of all our colleagues from around the world.

The role of a Consultant in the GSS is varied and challenging, encompassing a wide range of different types of work. Some examples of the types of work regularly undertaken by the Global Services and Solutions team (GSS) are as follows :

Multi-country coordination and project management

  • We provide advice and coordination for global projects including for example : Accounting consolidation for employee benefit plans globallyDue diligence and integration associated with cross-
  • border mergers, acquisitions and divestituresBenefit inventory, benchmarking against market practice and complianceGlobal broking and other benefits procurement activity.

    Strategic advice around the management of employee benefits

  • We provide advice to headquarters on the most efficient management of their employee benefits. Examples might include : Supporting global oversight and governance proceduresCo-
  • sourcing of benefits managementHealth & wellbeing strategies

    Technical expertise on global risk management

  • We advise clients on optimal risk management solutionsFinancial, cost and risk control solutions for retirement plans globallyMultinational pooling and captive solutions
  • We also act as the local actuary for plans where Willis Towers Watson does not have a local office and manage International Retirement and Savings Plans.

    The GSS in Europe works as a true European team. Consultants work across borders in international teams supporting multinational organisations headquartered in Europe (as well as regional headquarters of non-

    European multinationals).

    The Role

    As one of the Associate Consultants in the GSS Netherlands team, the successful candidate will operate as a project manager with a focus on delivery across the range of GSS services.

    He or she will support more senior consultants in the delivery of international benefit consulting services to the headquarters of our multinational clients as well as client relationship management.

    The primary focus will be on global projects for corporate headquarters, coordination of local consulting teams around the world, and supporting client management activities.

    It would include actuarial elements such as global coordination and analysis of pension liabilities.

    Key tasks associated with this role will be to work with senior consultants to :

  • Effectively manage projects using established project management processes and technology to deliver successfully across all countries;
  • Provide proactive advice around the opportunities to optimize the way benefits are managed globally
  • Provide updates on local country activities and proactively identify and escalate issues.
  • With support from our offshore support centres, engage in dialogue with in-country consultants / brokers as needed, to ensure local issues are resolved;
  • Participate in regular (as necessary) meetings both internally and with the client to communicate progress and resolve outstanding matters;
  • Deal with issues that arise, and escalating as appropriate;
  • Keep abreast of changes in legislation, market practice or otherwise, to identify issues that clients should be addressing.
  • Ensure that wider client team is kept appraised of issues and brought in to conversations as necessary;
  • Support the use of WTW technology to help clients to maximize the value from the information collected.
  • Support with contracting and invoicing for our services
  • Identify opportunities for integrating our services with other consulting services offered by Willis Towers Watson and working with senior consultants to support the realisation of those opportunities.
  • Support sales and marketing activities, including development of proposals and internal network management as well as intellectual capital and research activities
  • The Requirements

  • Graduate in (Business) Economics, Business Administration (preferably Finance or Strategy), Econometrics, Social Science or any other major with significant quantitative course work (working towards) actuarial qualifications are an advantage but not a requirement;
  • Basic financial acumen and strong interest for the HR field and reward matters in particular;
  • A problem solver; able to identify and solve challenging problems;
  • Analytical; able to draw conclusions from data in a logical, systematic way;
  • Pro-active and accountable with good interpersonal skills (team player);
  • Eye for detail and able to work and think in a methodical and orderly way;
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills and knowledge of statistics;
  • Undertaken extracurricular activities in order to develop yourself;
  • Fluency in English, preferably also in Dutch and one other European language.
