Job description

Model Risk Oversight (MRO) is a newly established team within Model Risk Management that is responsible for the roll out of the Model Risk Management framework.

This is a crucial element of the ModellING Paradigm Shift and a key enabler to ING’s Accelerating Think Forward strategy.

MRO looks at all models (not only regulatory ones) used within ING Bank worldwide.

You will work with a variety of stakeholders within the global ING organisation. You will act as a subject matter expert.

The function reports to the Head of Model Risk Oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • This senior expert supports the Global Head of Model Risk Oversight in the development and execution of the Model Risk Management Framework
  • To bring in expert knowledge on the subject, in such a way that we can speak of unicity. Will leverage knowledge to the team, that has to establish a global, centralized and standardized model risk framework, including governance, policies, model inventory and life cycle, model risk appetite, individual model assessment) bringing outside knowledge in.
  • Knowledge sharing and coaching will be crucial in a growing team, that starts from scratch.

  • Provides independent oversight and challenge as well as develops the methodologies, policies, process, tools, and reporting to support the Model Risk Management Framework for his / her domain to ensure model risk methodologies and processes are appropriately governed and mitigated while providing value to the Bank’s business lines.
  • Coaches more senior’ colleagues and shares knowledge and expertise (both hard and soft).
  • Ensures that his / her relevant MoRM topics are realized, monitored, maintained and if required provides recommendations for changes.
  • Advises at strategic level and can represent Model Risk Management towards external and internal stakeholders like ECB, DNB and KPMG.
  • Is the lead contact for other parts of ING in his / her topics
  • Contribute to establishing the Model Risk Management team and ensuring the deliverables of the team as per the ModellING Paradigm Shift.
  • Strategic and regulatory accompaniment on the implementation of all projects and initiatives run, for achieving the medium and long-
  • term mission set for the division Model Risk Management in supporting ING strategy.

  • Further developing the existing processes in model risk management to achieve a balance between the agile way of working and regulatory compliance.
  • Preparing as update or alignment the annual review process for the governance framework and the policies for model risk management.
  • Can act as substitute for the Global Head Model Risk Oversight.

    You are part of the Model Risk Management (MoRM) department and you will be based in Amsterdam. MoRM is part of the Risk domain headed by the CRO of ING.

    The role requires interactions with many stakeholders on a variety of potentially high profile topics. The environment that you work in can be described as new, fast growing, dynamic, professional with fast changing requirements and needs.

    The Model Risk Management Department is currently adopting the ING Agile One Way of Working.

    Your profile

    We are looking for someone with an academic degree in a relevant discipline with a clear affinity and experience with models, both regulatory and non-

    regulatory. The function requires someone who has the ability to think at both strategic and operational levels.

    You bring in expert knowledge on the subject, in such a way that we can speak of unicity. You are an authority in the field and as such will be key in the success of the ModellING paradigm shift.

    You bring a thorough understanding and experience in implementing models and model frameworks. You are able to bring difficult and unpopular messages from time to time.
