Would you like to work on innovative impact approaches for assessing agricultural and private sector practices and services in an international development context?

Do you have experience with R and Stata and are you able to switch between the two of them?

Wageningen Economic Research has an extensive international network and a leading position in impact policies and programs in the field of impact analysis and innovative impact approaches for assessing business practices, services and international development interventions.

We cooperate with private and public actors in various disciplines.

We are seeking a junior researcher who can support the impact evaluation group at the international policy division of Wageningen Economic Research.

The successful candidate has experience in applied econometric research, data management, and the integration of quantitative and qualitative methods.

Experience in an international development context is an advantage. She / he will work in multinational, multidisciplinary teams on agricultural private sector development.

The position will be based in our office in The Hague, The Netherlands, with regular national and international travel responsibilities.

As econometric researcher you will evaluate the impacts of innovative agricultural and food policies, by the private sector, sector platforms, NGOs and governments.

Job description :

  • You collaborate in socio-economic research projects focused on agriculture and private sector developments in developing countries.
  • This applied research provides private and public players in the sector with high quality data and contents analysis to support the formulation of business strategies and government policies.

  • You manage data and conduct applied econometric analysis for various research projects in developing countries.
  • You deliver agreed results within agreed time constraints.
  • You are able and willing to travel internationally.
  • You are able to translate data results into concise high quality output.
  • You are able and capacitated to establish and maintain international contacts with the required cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Within national and internationally funded projects, you deliver high quality research and you respond proactively and adequately to the needs of the market.
  • We ask

  • Academic background and experience in econometric analyses (using panel data econometrics, instrumental variables and binary dependent variable models, propensity score matching etc.
  • using R and Stata, and qualitative research methods.

  • Ability to learn new statistical and computer programs in short time periods.
  • Experiences with mixed methods evaluation approaches for private or public sector clients and NGO’s.
  • Proven experience in collaborating in multidisciplinary, multinational teams.
  • A keen interest in applying socio-economic research in private sector and public sector domains.
  • Client oriented and entrepreneurial with good communication skills.
  • Able to express yourself clearly in Dutch and / or English, both orally and in writing. An additional language is an advantage (French / Spanish).
  • Having 1-2 years relevant work experience in impact evaluation and / or development economics is an advantage

  • Wageningen Economic Research offers a combination of a good basic salary with excellent secondary labour conditions :
  • You will be covered by the collective labour agreement (cao) of Wageningen Research, and will be placed in salary scale 11 (gross €3,176 -
  • €4,934 based on 36h working week).

  • Wageningen Economic Research offers 23 days holiday per year with an optional extra 25 more compensation days in a 40h working week.
  • An annual 8% holiday allowance and 3% end of year bonus.

  • This is a permanent position based in The Hague. Initially two year contracts will be signed.
