Feature Engineer Developer Workplace (WPS)
Workplace Services is the solution provider within ING for everything on the workplace. WPS delivers the windows-based workstations on which the ING developers create their code.
To empower ING’s top developers world-wide, we are looking for a feature engineer who can help us in our challenge to create and manage developer workstation solutions based on Apple and Linux.
Your work environment
WPS delivers its solutions in partnerships with various outsourcing partners. WPS has several multidisciplinary teams, each focussing on their product such as Windows on the laptop and desktop, email, mobile telephony, Wi-
Fi, Proxy, Servicedesk. The agile and scrum methodologies are practiced in WPS.
Our current offering for a developer workstation is based on Windows. On short term, we want to add Apple and Linux to our services, aimed at ING development engineers on a global level.
For this, WPS has started the squad WPS Developer Workplace’.
As a Feature Engineer Developer Workplace, you will be part of this squad and be responsible to develop, deliver and manage the WPS Developer workplace services, in close co-
operation with the ING developer community, external suppliers and other WPS Squads.
WPS developer workplace
All countries within ING that are performing software development, are facing the same challenges. Various local initiatives and implementations of both the Apple and Linux platforms exist.
Thus far, these solutions are not aligned within ING and are not standardized. WPS has taken on the challenge to globally deliver an ING owned and managed Apple workplace and Linux workplace for the software developers, that supports One Way of Working.
Apple developer workplace
The Apple OS desktop operating system is used by developers on physical laptops. The Apple developer workplace will be managed using the JAMF-
PRO suite. The Apple native OS is used, and the squad is responsible for adding functionality on top of this. This functionality consists of e.
g. integration with the ING network, software to support the daily office work routine (Mail, Skype, Office applications, print, scan etc.
and implementing risk mitigating measures. Next to this, also a global support model has to be designed and implemented by the squad.
Linux developer workplace
Linux as a desktop operating system is used by developers on physical laptops as well as virtualised. The base will be formed by using the Ubuntu distribution.
The squad, together with members from the ING Development community will develop / build the functionality on top of this just like with the Apple solution.
However, due to the nature of the Linux platform this will take more development work. This solution will also demand a tailored world-
wide support model, which will have to be designed form the start.
operation with other teams.
