Key Job Dimensions & Scope of Role
EMEA, US and APAC Markets that are directly supported
Leader of leaders
4 direct reports (a total of 35 partners as responsibility)
Travel to US plants and Seattle support center and travel to external manufacturers to manage performance (5% travel)
Responsible for the Amsterdam Roasting Plant budget and green bean inventory
Full responsibility for safe operations of the Amsterdam Roasting Plant and able to act with the plant director authority for stopping and starting production.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Manages warehouse, roasting, packaging and maintenance operations led by shift supervisors in the plant to meet or exceed goals for production including : safety, cost, quality and service requirements
Defines non negotiables with the team for operational practices and consistently reinforces by providing performance feedback, coaching and establishment of performance standards to team members
Monitors plant, team, supplier and individual performance against objectives, targets and KPI’s. Acts on budget variances, operational targets, safety and quality results to meet annual goals.
Fosters and inspires continuous improvement culture that focuses on building flexibility for all process teams in the Amsterdam Roasting Plant.
Provides leadership and support to partners leading improvements and leads RCA action plans
Identifies and implements productivity improvement projects in order to meet or exceed targets. Provides operations requirements into engineering for major capital projects and leads operational execution of change projects
Pro-actively works with Amsterdam Roasting Plant and Seattle Support Center support functions including planning, scheduling, quality, continuous improvement and engineering
Develops annual operating budget to meet company and plant objectives in line with the long-range plans for the company and EMEA manufacturing.
Monitors and controls expenses, inventory waste and variance, equipment needs, partner and temporary staffing levels, overtime and throughput to attain annual budget improvement targets
Works with the plant management team to prioritize work and establishes relationships with other plant operations to ensure the ARP learns best practices from other plants
Manages operational performance of external manufactures to Starbucks defined standards
Maintains coffee quality through adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines, product specifications and quality procedures.
Ensures adherence to legal (environment, ARBO and safety) and operational compliance requirements and ensures workplace safety and quality and addresses safety issues promptly and completely
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
10-15 years of manufacturing operational and engineering experience
Bachelor or master (HBO / WO) in engineering (preferred)
Mechanical and or Electrical engineering experience in food or chemical industry (preferred)
Excellent communication and influencing skills in English, both in written and oral
Operational knowledge of Dutch is preferred.
Experience of managing continuous improvement using TPM / LEAN / Six Sigma techniques.
