About the team

You’ll be part of our Criterion business part of Shell P&T a major supplier of catalysts to the refining industry and a market leader in multiple product lines.

We use our collective knowledge to give Shell’s refineries a technical advantage as well as providing a growing number of external customers with differentiated technical solutions spanning hydro-

processing, residue upgrading and hydro-cracking.

What’s the role?

A senior member of the commercial team, you’ll be the primary contact for Criterion’s refining customers, including some of our most valuable clients both Shell refineries and third-party refiners.

You’ll be targeted to grow our business and increase our margins. A key part of the role is understanding and reporting back on what customers want.

You’ll use the market intelligence you gather to craft world-class value propositions, inform our pricing and market strategy, and influence our product development.

  • We want to achieve customer value across the wider catalyst and technology licensing businesses so you’ll need to be able to see the bigger picture and seize opportunities to offer customers services outside your product portfolio;
  • harnessing the support of our regional Hydro processing and Hydrocracking technical service teams.

    Whilst it’s not a team-leading role, we’re definitely looking for someone who can bring out the best in less experienced colleagues, coaching them and sharing your experience.

    What we need from you

    You’ll call on a degree-level qualification (or equivalent), ideally in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and a track record in a commercial role.

    You’ve proven your business mindset, negotiating skills and customer focus and shown you can convert in-principle deals into finished contracts, at all times, managing contractual risk and ensuring legal and intellectual property requirements are adhered to.

    Refinery or catalyst experience would be an advantage but provided you have experience of direct sales of technology or performance products, we’ll help you acquire the knowledge you need to succeed.

    Other nice-to- haves’ include :

  • Knowledge and prior use of 4D diagnostic selling tools.
  • Experience of doing business with customers in different countries and cultures.
  • It’s your people skills that set you apart. We’re keen to hear from men and women with natural interpersonal abilities who’ve shown they can cultivate relationships with everyone from junior colleagues to the most senior executive levels in customers' organisations.

    Add to that a flair for influencing others and co-ordinating input from teams and individuals (even where you don’t have direct authority) and we’d like to hear from you.
