The Senior Buyer is expected to :

  • Drive the development, implementation and evaluation of the procurement strategies and ensure documentation to support this is up to date
  • Manage the sourcing and contract negotiation of local / global transport categories (road, air freight and last mile delivery)
  • Lead or participate in cross functional commodity teams to build strategies on TNT level and to run tenders, insure implementation and performance management
  • Propose and execute cost / service improvements for the categories within their responsibility.
  • Execute risks assessments and mitigate risks
  • Mitigate critical supply situations.
  • Interact with the BU senior buyers and buyers to execute procurement category strategies and approaches
  • Screen supply markets for innovating opportunities and inform the relevant internal stakeholders
  • Key Accountabilities & Activities

    Managerial Process

    The Senior Purchaser is responsible for providing input to category manager regarding :

  • Commodity strategies
  • Results) of cost saving initiatives

  • Performance and development plans of key suppliers
  • The development of the annual procurement plan
  • Risks and risk mitigation
  • Internal and external benchmarking
  • Strategic Process Management

    The Senior Purchaser is responsible for :

  • Matching demands within the company for goods and services with market opportunities through a cohesive sourcing strategy for the (sub) categories in scope
  • Provide input for the development of the global category strategies (procurement approach)
  • Lead or participate in cross- functional team with internal stakeholders and / or suppliers
  • Supplier management for strategic and preferred suppliers
  • Tactical Process Management

    The Senior Purchaser is responsible for :

  • Managing the sourcing process from gathering and validating requirements, selection of potential suppliers up to the contract finalization and ensuring implementation, following a formal and well documented procurement process
  • Participating in Business Development projects and pro-actively searching for new opportunities
  • Initiating and executing cost effectiveness and optimization projects (quantitatively and qualitatively)
  • Assessing and qualifying global suppliers
  • Negotiating terms and conditions and contracting
  • Managing strategic and preferred suppliers’ performance
  • Supplier development
  • Risk assessment and mitigation of supply risks; continuity of supply, quality of provided goods & services, health and safety, financial commitments, corporate responsibility etc
  • Reporting

  • Ensure that all reporting is completed on time and accurately.
  • Ensure that relevant key objectives and performance outcomes are promptly communicated at frequent intervals to all levels of management
  • Enhance the quality of management information to enable better decision making (including review, analysis and commentaries)
  • Functionally interact with the Global Operations Community to assist in overall operational improvements.

  • Comply with internal policies and procedures in order to ensure consistency across the Division

  • Preferred profile

    Essential Educational and / or Training Qualifications & Certificates

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent working level preferably in Economics and / or Procurement and / or Transportation
  • 4-6 years experience as a buyer / purchaser in an international environment, preferably within a multinational company
  • Proven experience in strategic supplier and contract management (supplier selection, vendor rating and evaluation, business review, complaint & claim handling)
  • Preferably experience in one or more of the subcategories managed (Transportation subcontractors)
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Trained negotiator
  • Experience in process efficiency and change management.
  • Fluent English language skills (written and verbal)
  • Preferred Experience and Knowledge

  • Transportation category expertise required (LTL, FTL, Distribution, Air transport )
  • Excellent knowledge of industry, market and supplier analysis
  • Experience in supplier screening and selection process
  • Experience in applying risk management within procurement
  • Capable of independently leading the negotiation process and building a negotiation file
