The incumbent serves as Senior Legal Advisor to the Appeals Chamber : he / she plans, organises and coordinates all the activities within the Appeals Chamber.
Duties include :
Advises the Appeals Chamber Judges on all aspect of substantive and procedural law, with emphasis on criminal and international law, and on case management.
Advises the Judges in preparing decisions and leads the work of the Appeals Chamber staff. Ensures the consistency of decisions drafting.
Attends meetings and hearings of the Appeals Chamber and liaises between the Judges, Parties and other Organs within the Tribunal.
Supervises research projects by the Appeals Chamber staff and interns. Performs other functions as required.
Knowledge and Skills
Professionalism Strong drafting, organizational, and interpersonal skills; Strong management background, with demonstrated proficiency in the application of court management and administration principles;
proven ability to conduct comprehensive and complex legal analysis; proven ability to work well under pressure and meet strict guidelines;
knowledge of international criminal justice systems highly desirable. Experience in supervising the drafting of complex Appeals Judgements in an international criminal Tribunal is highly desirable.
Client Orientation Ability to identify clients’ needs and appropriate solutions; ability to establish and maintain productive partnerships with clients and sensitivity to management issues.
Communication Solid writing skills and proven legal drafting skills in English required; French and / or Arabic language skills are an asset;
effective verbal communication skills, ability to conduct briefings / presentations and to carry out other representational duties.

Education : Advanced university degree in law (Master’s degree or equivalent), preferably with a specialization in international or criminal law.
Work Experience : A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience with an emphasis on international criminal and / or public international law.
International experience at an international criminal tribunal is required. Working experience related to Lebanon and the region is desirable.
Languages : Arabic, English and French are the official languages of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. For this post proficiency in oral and written English with working knowledge of French and / or Arabic is highly desirable.
