Job summary :
The Global Head of eCommerce Foundation is one part thought leader / chief architect driving innovation, one part operator focused on delivery and efficiency at scale and one part influencer inspiring change at all levels.
A key aspect of this role includes an ability to drive alignment with business and product leaders on Booking’s strategy and plan to accelerate delivery of the right go-forward enterprise architecture with a platform product in mind.
This includes building out multi-year business cases with clear product vision and deep technical plans, refining organizational structures and craft capabilities to ensure delivery.
This means interacting with teams and leaders including Booking Holdings, its subsidiaries and its board. It also involves the ability to hire amazing product and technology leaders to augment and harness the power of the existing team who can truly change the way we work, what we build and what we build on.
Key Responsibilities :
Responsible for setting and implementing our global eCF strategy, which is a critical component of our company strategy.
Lead the Business Platform organisation in terms of platform architecture, technology choices, delivery, organisational design, people management.
Constantly engage with business leaders in order to prioritize technology backlog in the teams
Ultimately responsible for the eCommerce Foundation / Horizontal Business Services : in time delivery, reliability, scalability.
Responsible for delivering the appropriate (customized) cloud solutions for the business where required.
Responsible for defining basis architecture principles and engineering practices and their adoption within the (larger) organisation
Deliver on our platform ambitions, creating an unprecedented, personalised travel experience for our users (e.g., internal and ultimately external developers, product managers and business leaders).
Be an active ambassador for Platform Architecture throughout the business, including being the main stakeholder to our Leadership Team.
Lead the teams who are building out our state of the art eCommerce Platform services and tooling, to enable the right business, product and technology structure across the business.
Lead our Fellow and Principle community, being the senior stakeholder for recruiting the best talent and developing our people.
Sponsor of strategic investments relating to technology, such as acquisitions, partnerships with universities and internal investments.
Ensure that there is direction and alignment for each business-agnostic service and system
Be on the lookout for significant technology impediments and scalability issues that need attention and address them promptly
Make sure there is a good balance between short term solutions and longer term sustainability for each system.
Ensure there are the right technical and product people involved in decision making
Ideal Experience :
15 years of Technology Leadership experience gained in fast moving, global technology companies.
Extensive experience leading and executing projects that use machine learning in order to solve real-world customer and business problems.
Experience managing very senior stakeholders in a matrixed organization, as well as leading multi-disciplinary tech teams including product, engineering, data scientists and ops.
Experience defining and implementing cloud based microservices platform strategies at scale
Knowledge of the latest trends in Platform Architecture, and an understanding of how they are being applied successfully at scale
Masters or PhD degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in one of : Computer Science or a related technical field.
