What will you be doing?
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a high-resolution radar imaging technique used in airborne and spaceborne radars. TNO has developed a mini-
SAR system that is circular in design, weighs only 800 grams, and can be mounted on a small drone. This 32-channel radar can perform novel and innovative radar modes in combination with an agile platform, such as a drone.
Advanced signal processing for various new imaging and detection modes needs to be defined and implemented. Furthermore, motion compensation schemes and navigation methods have to be implemented and evaluated.
This radar is a unique system, that is at the forefront of drone radar development. Its inherent flexibility allows for many new radar modes to be conceived and demonstrated.
Depending on your interests, the work may also include application of novel processing techniques such as compressive sensing or machine learning or the development of image processing tools needed for new types of radar imagery, such as wide-
angle multi-aspect image sets.
You will perform this assignment in the Department of Radar Technology. We are a passionate and creative group of professionals (60 people) dedicated to the specification, development and evaluation of innovative, high-
performance MMICs, miniaturised and integrated RF subsystems, antennas and front-ends. The department is at the heart of novel, game-
changing radar system and signal processing concepts for the military, space and civil domains.
What do we require of you?
You are in the final stages of your degree in physics, mathematics, electrical engineering or a similar degree and you have a track record in the field of signal processing.
You have experience in programming in Matlab, you are pragmatic and focused on making things work. Knowledge of navigation systems is a plus.
Next to technical expertise we value communication skills and a results-driven attitude.
