FunctieCFRO / Investment Risk ManagementThe CFRO / IRM department is the 2nd line risk management department within APG-AM and has a broad set of responsibilities reflecting its involvement in each step of the investment decision making process starting from ALM and Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) to individual asset classes, funds, portfolios and asset lines.
CFRO / IRM is operating across three locations (Amsterdam, New-York and Hong-Kong) with a total of 37 team members. CFRO / IRM stands out for its modus operandi, being regional agnostic which optimizes its effectiveness, efficiency, quality and level of standardization.
Its responsibilities include : Monitoring investment risks of the overall pension fund portfolio and at asset class level.
This process relies heavily by ensuring adequate risk modeling of underlying investments in the risk management system (for Capital Markets) and the proprietary scoring of single mandates (for Alternative Investments).
Reviewing and issuing Risk opinions on ALM studies, Strategic Allocation and Investment Plans, etc.Performance measurement and analysis at asset class and pension fund portfolio level.
Reviewing and issuing Risk opinions on changes made to the guidelines of investment mandates. Monitoring post-trade compliance with guidelines in place.
Elaborating comprehensive Asset class review reports presenting our independent opinion on the asset class regarding the investment process, the risk / return profile, compliance with mandates given by clients, quality of the delivery of the product offering, etc.
Client facing to explain risk views on the pension fund portfolio and the different asset classes.providing model validation on valuation and pricing modelsproviding credit risk monitoring on counterparties and risk monitoring in terms of liquidity and market risk on treasury and trading activitiesproviding risk advice / opinion / sign-off on (new) investment proposals and products.
This includes, when needed, conducted own independent operational due diligence on external managers.The broad set of responsibilities and activities is clustered in three teams : an Asset Risk management (ARM), a Client Risk & Performance Management (CRPM) and a Risk Analytics (RA) team.
We are currently looking for a new colleague to join the ARM team located in Amsterdam to focus on the asset classes Credits and Emerging Markets Debt.
The Asset Risk Management TeamARM team includes 23 members located across 3 locations : Amsterdam, New-York and Hong Kong.
The team’s main responsibilities are focused towards : performing ongoing 2nd line risk management monitoring activities on asset class level, providing credit risk monitoring on counterparties and risk monitoring in terms of liquidity and market risk on treasury and trading activities and providing risk opinions on (new) investment proposals and products.
The senior Risk Manager reports to the team Manager ARM who reports to the Managing Director CFRO / IRM.ProfielResponsibilitiesThe scope of the role will be focused on performing risk managing activities for the two asset classes Credits & Emerging Markets Debt.
The main set of responsibilities is captured by : Representing CFRO / IRM in Fiduciary led processes such as the mandating process, and review of investment guidelines, Business plans for the asset class.
Risk-based monitoring of the mentioned asset classes. This entails : Ensuring adequate risk modeling of positions within the Risk Management system.
Running risk analysis on the asset classes mentioned using the risk management system,Preparing periodical risk reports including advice / opinionsMaintaining the proprietary independent risk-scoring of underlying investment mandates.
Preparation of risk analyses (periodical and ad hoc; including observations) for review purposes and advice towards senior management and portfolio manager(s).
Providing risk opinions on new investment proposals and products to committee investment proposals / investment committee.
Maintaining open and constructive relationship with resp CIO / PM teamPerforming ongoing risk oversight on the investment process and portfolio positioning by maintaining regular communication with portfolio managersParticipation in relevant projects at several levels of the organizationDaily monitoring of post-trade compliance.
ProfileUniversity degree in a quantitative / finance study or a similar background. FRM, CFA, VBA, CAIA or related certifications are a plus.
At least 5-10 years of relevant experience in an asset management environment of which a substantial part within a risk management role or position.
Fixed Income background. Knowledge on credits, emerging markets debt and alternative credit (for example private debt, non-performing loans, distressed credits).
Front office / Portfolio management experience is preferred to fulfil sparring partner role towards internal stakeholders (portfolio managers, fiduciary managers) and clients.
Knowledge of financial instruments (money market, interest rate and fx forward instruments and their dynamics) and financial market.
Good technical knowledge of asset allocation and liquidity management within an asset manager environmentKnowledge of the following IT suits is a plus : SAS, Factset, Risk Manager, Bloomberg, POINT, QlikExperience with programming is a plus, e.
g. Matlab, Python, SQL.Strong verbal and written communication skillsHands-on and a team player and problem solving mentalityAbility to work autonomously and prioritize between short term workload and long term projects.
