What will you be doing?
Even if the balance between the expected profits and losses of an innovation shows a positive result, there is no guarantee that an innovation ever succeeds.
In many occasions there is more than just one party involved in the decision-making process that enables an innovation to enter the market.
Each decision maker pursues different values and interests, some of which may conflict with those of another decision maker.
Because of a lack of mutual understanding, agreements can often not be reached, and innovations fail to ever see the light of day.
In this internship you will develop a method (for example, a serious game) that supports decision makers in their collaborative and individual decision-
making processes. The method you develop should enable decision makers to (i) comprehend and (re)assess their own intrinsic and instrumental values and those of others, (ii) weigh them, and (iii) eventually exchange them through negotiation, such that a well-
founded collaborative investment decision can be made.
The input values for this method have already been identified and quantified in previous stages of our Value Case Methodology* that supports the decision-
making process of innovations. Your method should be able to translate the numerical insights from the Value Case Methodology to practical settings.
By making these insights more transparent and accessible to the decision makers we aim to support and stimulate their line of thought.
Your method needs to be able to accurately reflect the quantitative results obtained in other stages of the methodology on the one hand, and made comprehensible and usable for decision makers on the other hand.
For this you will need to rely both on your quantitative skills and knowledge about interaction design. You will validate and fine-
tune your proposed method by applying it under practical settings and in real test cases. The goal of your method is to reach a collaborative agreement among stakeholders that bears the highest rate that an innovation will be successfully adopted by the market.
What do we require of you?
What can you expect of your work situation?
You will be working for the Strategic Business Analysis department. This department focuses on the successful adoption of innovations by the market.
In order to do so, you will need an overview of the expected effects of an innovation and the distribution of these effects across the involved parties.
A key part of our work therefore consists of mapping the expected effects of an innovation and determining their impact on the decision-
making process of stakeholders.
