We are currently expanding our engineering team the successful candidate will join a group of Utility, Electrical, Civil, Manufacturing IT and Process Engineers, who all report to the Global Engineering Manager.
Working as part of a collaborative and cross-functional team, you will help Nutreco to meet its goals. In this position you will have the opportunity to work on / support multiple projects at the same time and broaden your knowledge on your area.
The Global Automation Engineer must have the knowledge and skills to integrate a broad range of technologies such as process measurement and control sensors, electronic equipment, panels and electric motors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, computer systems, industrial communication networks, wireless application, system integration, robotic and many more.
He / she will work closely with the project teams and key users in order to ensure an integral approach in the design and operation of the assets and installations.
He or she investigates and defines Automation solution requirements and supports its implementation, in line with business needs and project management methods and techniques in order to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the production processes, reduce cost, improve sustainability and maximize profitability of Nutreco projects.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for automation and controls systems design, specification, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up assistance.
In alignment with Nutreco stakeholders, develops automation standards and guidelines to be used on NIP projects
Develops automation templates and solutions that could be easily replicated in other locations or projects.
When needed, assists Production staff in troubleshooting in the event of problems; performs root cause analysis in case of (recurring) malfunctions, problems, or other issues;
suggests solutions to prevent malfunctions from recurring
Supports the design, installation, and commissioning of new projects, sometimes travelling to other countries or locations (approx. 25% of working time).
In contact with design companies, equipment suppliers and internal stakeholders, evaluates and validates design alternatives (internal and external discussions) to create optimum designs.
Ensures the project requirements are made explicit, challenge requirements in view of the business of functional targets, in line with the project goals and objectives and budget requirements, in order to safeguard that the project goals are aligned with internal customers and other stakeholders’ needs.
Supports project CAPEX estimate development.
Participates in procurement processes e.g., definition of contracting strategy, writing RFQ’s, bid assessments, participates in selection process and scope of works definition both for process designers as for process equipment suppliers

Experience and Education :
Education : BS in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical or Computer Engineering
Experience / knowledge required :
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position implementing projects of automation for manufacturing through the use of ISA-88 and ISA-95 standards for control of batch.
Automatic process control (for continuous and batch process)
Installation and wiring of electrical equipment in low / medium voltage
Programming, installation and maintenance of programmable logic controllers
Installation and configuration of human machine interfaces (HMI) and SCADA systems
Development of automation and electrical drawings (P & ID, loop & circuit drawings, etc.)
Risk identification and implementation of safety procedures during automation commissioning
Industrial process control networks based on Ethernet and other standards
Installation and calibration of instruments, sensor as well as final control elements
Standard ISA - S5.1 for identification of instruments
ISA - 5.06.01 standard documentation of functional requirements for control applications
Standard ISA - 88 batch (Batch Control) processes Control
Standard ISA - 95 enterprise systems and process control integration
Standard ISA - 99 Cyber-Security in automation and industrial control systems
Fluent in English (verbal and written)
Proven ability to communicate openly and have important conversations with internal stakeholders
Strong organizational skills; attention to detail.
Hands-on, action oriented attitude
Experience / knowledge preferred :
Experience in Food Processing, Bio-Tech, Pharmaceutical, or a chemical industry.
Leaving lived and worked in at least 2 geographically spread out locations
Proficiency in a different language, e.g. Spanish, Portuguese
Experience in developing best practice standards and training / implementing
