Job Title : Strategy Manager
Help Elsevier tackle our most difficult challenges, and craft compelling business growth and innovation strategies. Responsibilities include strategic planning, gathering and turning data into meaningful insights, developing / delivering strategic recommendations.
The ideal candidate will be inquisitive and resourceful, with a penchant for going above and beyond immediate project requirements to find deep insights.
A genuine passion for problem-solving, combined with leadership and communication skills will be critical to success. An understanding of data & analytics businesses would be a great asset.
Reporting into the Vice President of Strategy and Strategic Planning, the primary responsibility of the Strategy Manager is to provide leadership, and outstanding problem-solving capabilities to address a broad range of strategic projects critical to Elsevier.
You will work closely with senior management as a trusted advisor on strategic questions, helping manage corporate processes such as the annual strategic planning process, bringing external market and competitor insights to the organization, providing insight and direction in evaluating new business opportunities and reviewing acquisitions, divestitures and strategic alliances.
Assist in the development of strategy and operating plans for Elsevier
Undertake analysis / modelling work to drive insight into market trends and competitive positioning
Support initiatives to roll out the Elsevier strategy to business unit teams
Assist in the identification and analysis of potential targets for acquisition and partnerships to accelerate growth
Support implementation of key strategic initiatives, improving group’s ability to deliver on strategic priorities and improving operational effectiveness
Manage multiple strategy projects across business units by setting project plans, tracking progress against established timelines and coordinating input from multiple stakeholders
Drive alignment and collaboration between business units by proactively identifying areas of overlap
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA preferred
Preference to candidates with experience at a major strategy consulting firm, including corporate and growth strategy project work
Ability to work in a complex and matrixed environment, deliver quickly and adapt to changing demands
Ability to balance several initiatives simultaneously and meet project timelines
Displays evidence of clear strategic thinking, able to balance short-term activities with long-term vision
Ability to work through ambiguity and develop clear plans
Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal)
Ability to cultivate strong collaborative working relationships and contacts across multiple company functions
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization, including executive leadership
Proven ability to influence others, drive meaningful change results and develop / execute formal change management programs
Strong MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word proficiency required
Project management experience leading large cross functional projects preferred
Experience in data and analytics businesses preferred
