Are you a proven driver with strong relationship building skills and a role model in customer centricity? We are targeting an energetic professional with new business development experience to support our team in achieving our ambitious strategy.

DSM is looking for a New Business Development (NBD) Manager to join our team in Elgin, IL. This role requires the ability to travel 50% in North America, mostly within the MidWest.

A US Home-based office will also be considered.

The Challenge

New Business Development Manager in Bio-Based Products & Services (BP&S) is a key player in driving our bio-ethanol results in NA.

The position will report to the Business Director Americas and have a thorough understanding of DSM’s bio-ethanol value proposition from a commercial point of view and have technical understanding of the market and the industry.

NBD Manager will develop, implement and realize the account strategy and plan, within the unit’s sales strategy and plan, in order to ensure the realization of planned business results and build long term customer relationships in the conventional and advanced bio-ethanol market.

In the role of New Business Development (NBD) Manager, you will :

  • Define the business development plan : Develop a market strategy for DSM’s products / technology in the cornfiber to ethanol (1.
  • 5G) market opportunity and drive the implementation of the business development plan.

  • Manage NBD projects throughout DSM’s Project Management Program stage gate process
  • Create a culture of collaboration with speed and partnerships & open innovation inside and especially also outside DSM with leading innovative companies.
  • Compose cross functional competence groups and ensure execution of the agreed business development & sales plans by realizing Sales, Marketing, R&D and Operations activities according to the agreed plan and to meet with customer requirements and needs.
  • Develop contacts and build relationships with targeted partners / customers, prepare and conclude sales contracts with partners and coordinate actions to minimize overdue, bad debts and days of sales outstanding.
  • Pro-actively help to steer R&D efforts for DSM’s products for the 1.5G market opportunity based on customer / partner feedback
  • Monitor and report to the relevant internal stakeholders about competitive and customer technical developments, new applications and new products in the emerging 1.
  • 5G and 2G market opportunities

  • Define & implement overall performance indicators and periodical reporting of actual performance against these, to facilitate (timely) decision making.
  • What we look for in you :

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial biotech role, working in ethanol fermentation, enzymes and / or yeast required
  • Knowledge of biofuels industry and markets, knowledge of yeast, enzyme and fermentation products and / or applications required
  • Record of successful new business development required
