V. is the ship manager for a Samskip owned fleet of vessels that comprises six container feeders and two multipurpose LNG-driven vessels.

An international opportunity

Based at our headquarters in Rotterdam, one of the world’s most important transport and shipping hubs, you will perform Purchasing for a busy and international fleet.

The container feeders are in liner service to and from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland, while the refrigerated vessels mostly perform spot trading activities along the Norwegian coast and across the Baltic Sea.

Manage the entire Purchasing process

Working closely with Technical and Marine Management, your core function in this role is to arrange purchasing requirements for the vessels.

Thus you negotiate price, quality, delivery time, and payment terms with suppliers. You then ensure safe and timely receipt on board, with final approval via the Technical Superintendent.

You report to the Head of Vessel Management.

Detailed activities include :

  • Informing the Technical Superintendent responsible for the vessel of any problems noted;
  • Following up on general correspondence related to the vessels;
  • Checking invoice content, coding and totals, following up incorrect invoices;
  • Verifying and organizing invoices and forwarding them in a timely manner to the Accounts Department;
  • Conducting vendor rating for the top ten vendors.
  • When inconsistencies occur you note them and inform the Head of Vessel Management.

    This is a role for an experienced professional with good controlling and communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively within a team.

    Needless to say, you are extremely safety conscious. You also bring a willingness to learn and adopt new systems and ideas so that we improve our processes.

    It is important that you can function independently while building the relationships that ensure buy-in from key stakeholders across a matrix environment.

    The formal requirements are :

  • Bachelor’s education (or similar level) in a relevant field;
  • Three years sailing experience, or a minimum of three years’ experience within the marine purchasing field;
  • Highly accurate and precise work style;
  • Able to gain a rapid and full knowledge of the Company Safety Management system;
  • Excellent knowledge of computer programs used within the company structure;
  • A high level of written and spoken English.
