What will you be doing?
The Machinaide project is a cooperation of TNO and Cordis Automation, Additive Industries, Lely, TU / e and KE-works. The project addresses knowledge-based services for and optimisation of machines.
To achieve this goal, Machinaide aims at the development of digital twins of machine control applications. Cordis Suite is a development platform for machine control applications developed by Cordis Automation.
It provides functionality to specify machine control application and to generate the controller’s code for several PLC platforms.
These specifications are described in a subset of UML, i.e. object, class, activity and state machine diagrams.
To optimise a machine control application during its operation, it is important to determine when the application is fit for its purpose.
A machine control application may involve hundreds or thousands of interacting functions. It is practically impossible to manually maintain an overview of all these functions running in parallel.
Hence, it is a huge challenge to determine whether a machine control application is performing correctly.
This assignment involves the realisation of a methodology, suitable for machine control designers, to detect suboptimal / anomalous behaviour of machine control applications, diagnose the root cause of the suboptimality / anomaly, and present it to an application designer.
Such a methodology involves a number of aspects :
The assignment is to be demonstrated on one of the use cases of the Machinaide project, either from Additive Industries or Lely.
What do we require of you?
You are a Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence MSc student looking for a graduation assignment of 6-9 months. You have experience with model-driven software engineering.
You are positively challenged by a multi-disciplinary environment and are motivated to have your graduation assignment make scientific software development methods accessible to a broader audience.
What can you expect of your work situation?
TNO is an independent research organisation whose expertise and research make an important contribution to the competitiveness of companies and organisations, to the economy and to the quality of society as a whole.
Innovation with purpose is what TNO stands for. With 3000 people we develop knowledge not for its own sake but for practical application.
To create new products that make life more pleasant and valuable and help companies innovate. To find creative answers to the questions posed by society.
We work for a variety of customers : governments, companies, service providers and non-governmental organisations. Working together on new knowledge, better products and clear recommendations for policy and processes.
In everything we do, impact is the key. Our product and process innovations and recommendations are only worth something if our customers can use them to boost their competitiveness.
The assignment will (if circumstances allow this) be carried out at ESI (TNO) at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven in cooperation with other partners of the Machinaide project.
What can TNO offer you?
You want to work on the precursor of your career; an internship gives you an opportunity to take a good look at your prospective future employer.
TNO goes a step further. It’s not just looking that interests us; you and your knowledge are essential to our innovation.
That’s why we attach a great deal of value to your personal and professional development. You will, of course, be properly supervised during your internship and be given the scope for you to get the best out of yourself.
Naturally, we provide suitable internship compensation.
