This is a unique opportunity to join Elsevier Life Sciences Solutions team as a Systems Engineering Lead working on products that significantly contribute to the areas of Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety making the real impact on quality of life and patients wellbeing.
As Systems Engineering Lead, you shall contribute directly to the one of the products and assist in the design, build and maintenance of application stacks for a product team working in this space.
You will provide line management for 4 operations engineers ensuring that they are clear on their expected duties, they have clear directions and goals set and that they are supported and mentored as part of a program of continued development and improvement.
In addition, you shall liaise with associated development teams ensuring that work coming into the team is correctly resourced, and strive to build collaborative partnerships with the development organizations.
This role will also assist with management decisions and activities and supervise the work efforts of individual contributors.
Designing and building infrastructure in AWS as part of a product team
Excellent people manager, responsible for the development of 4 engineers
Helping the product teams support applications in production from a systems’ point of view
Supporting developers with core tools (Jenkins, git etc)
Optimizing costs in AWS
Ensuring Elsevier TIO (Technology, Infrastructure and Operations) standards of operational maturity are maintained inside the product’s infrastructure
Building tools to help other team members self-serve for most operational tasks
Key Technical Skills / Experience
Supporting product teams with customer facing products
Infrastructure as code and configuration management (ideally terraform and puppet / ansible)
Agile experience working in a scrum team
Ability to work in a team with people from all backgrounds
Several of the following skills :
Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems
Application Containerization experience.
Linux experience at scale
Experience running and managing ElasticSearch
Scripting (ruby, bash, golang, python or other scripting languages)
Large scale monitoring and reporting (New Relic)
Continuous integration systems (Gitlab CI, Travis CI, Jenkins)
