We are building an integrated high quality Innovation risk support team for ING Labs, Platforms and for local innovation initiatives in order to ensure that ING takes a consistent risk management approach across geographies and business lines.

Furthermore, ING needs to manage emerging risks from new types of business. The risk team will also maintain and monitor the application of the Innovation risk framework.

An MLRO is needed to provide adequate advise and challenge on the Innovation initiatives, as the complexity of the activities in scope is significant.

Also the activities apply to unchartered territory which means that it requires strong assessment and senior decision capabilities as well as keeping the alignment with the standing organization in case of integration in existing business processes.

The activities cover multiple jurisdictions worldwide. Next to the diversity in jurisdictions and stakeholders, the activities cover a range of existing, changing and new products as well.

The MLRO needs to be capable of working in a complex environment, making risk assessments under time pressure and knowing which other experts may need to be involved.

The MLRO provides advice on projects on the initiatives in the Labs as well as on equity investment opportunities.

The MLRO will be part of the center of excellence team for integrated Risk oversight for CInO to make sure ING has a clear governance and consistent framework.

Job function name - Officer Non-Financial Risk A

  • Creating awareness of FEC risks and the consequences of external legislation and regulations; Advising, challenging and advising innovation initiative leads on how to limit the FEC risks, translating the relevant legislation and regulations into rules and controls governing the internal business operations;
  • Advising, challenging and assisting innovation initiative leads and Senior Management on the implementation and application of the relevant rules and controls to ensure compliance with FEC legislation and regulations and ING FEC Policy and Minimum Standards;
  • Maintaining contact with international and external stakeholders in order to keep fully updated on developments in the FEC regulatory environment.

    Key Responsibilities :

  • Identify the applicable laws and evaluates their impact on internal processes and procedures;
  • Collaborate on identifying the internal control system and procedures aimed at preventing and combating the risks in question;
  • Check the suitability of the internal control system and the procedures adopted and proposes the organizational and procedural changes required or appropriate in order to guarantee a suitable risk facility;
  • Provide advice and assistance for company bodies and top management; in the event that new products and services are offered, carry out a prior evaluation of competences;
  • Check the adequacy of the extra due diligence process, carried out by the line structures.

    The MLRO reports into the Head risk for innovation & M&A and is part of the Innovation & M&A Risk team. Functional reporting into C&GM Compliance officer..

    What we are looking for in you?

    Competencies :

  • Detailed knowledge of ING Corporate Compliance Charter and Framework and all relevant policies
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in Compliance Risk Management, including AML and Sanctions, within the banking industry;
  • Knowledge of AML and Sanctions regulations;
  • Excellent command of English, both verbal and written;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Ability to quickly analyze data / compliance processes / compliance practices, draw conclusions and make recommendations;
  • Ability to negotiate and convince stakeholders, including Senior Management;
  • Willingness and ability to travel abroad;
  • Team player able to challenge and sound board with other team members;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Thorough understanding of compliance relevant legislation and regulations, international trends and industry developments;
  • Ability to work with ING tools and systems;
  • A university degree or comparable experience and skills
  • Possess a can do’ approach, passion for the business, and drive for results.
  • Required Skills :

  • Strong sense of accountability : delivers on promise, takes ownership, etc.;
  • Effective communication skills, ability to influence others and effectively advise, and provide information either written or orally in English;

  • Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities :

  • Work with Management, Legal and other risk functions to provide business-relevant reporting and advising on compliance risks and related matters to Management, hierarchical and functional line;
  • Report information that Management needs to know, including information on key compliance risk issues, monitoring results, emerging trends, status of policy embedding, lessons learned and any other relevant or necessary information;
  • Ensure reports are accurate, complete and on time as well as adhere to ING standards;
  • Develop lessons learned to ensure the business learns from incidents and implement controls to prevent future occurrences;
  • Keep accurate records of reported material compliance incidents;
  • Maintain and index a wide range of compliance and relevant corporate documentation for quick and accurate storage and retrieval;
  • Escalate to hierarchical and functional line when Management is not resolving an incident (appropriately) or compliance-related matters.
  • Foster the mutual functional relationship with the colleagues in Corporate Compliance Risk Management by open and transparent communication and follow up on requests.
