The Senior Architect Network Transformation will be responsible for the architectural mid and long term transition of Liberty Global’s analogue networks towards only digital, converged and disaggregated multi-service uRLLC (ultra-reliable low latency communication) networks and beyond.
That includes the creation of architectural guidelines / blueprints and building block specifications of architectural frameworks and the development of mid and long term deployment strategies based on technology roadmaps, long range business cases and business demands etc.
Architectural frameworks must ensure interoperability with all network and platform elements north and southbound of the access network that the Access network will become a key enabler of products and services for consumer and B2B market segments.
This will involve participation in multifunctional teams where appropriate to ensure end to end solutions and products work transparently over the Access platform.
Analyse mid and long term business requirements from e.g. Operations, B2B, Mobile and Residential divisions to define architectural access network requirements regarding e.
g. bandwidth, latency, reliability, agility etc.
Modelling of different architecture solutions that meet defined mid and long term business requirements and creating pro and cons analysis’s based on e.
g. technical capabilities, CAPEX / OPEX costs, architectural scalability and reliability or supported Customer experience / NPS score etc.
Creating of High Level Architecture documents and Blueprints to describe selected architecture solutions and aligning with other impacted business domains like IT, Core, B2B, Operations, Procurement and Finance.
Define and specify High Level required building blocks within the architectural framework to support RFPs for hardware / software vendor selections executed by Access Engineering
Communicate the concept, impacts and benefits of architectural frameworks across all horizontal and vertical functions within Liberty Global and acting as a PoC for required knowledge transfers especially towards Access Engineering and support Access Engineering for first go lives of new network concepts / elements
Leading or supporting cross functional architecture or strategy teams to analyse / work out and align complex architectural frameworks across various technical business domains
Continuously reviewing existing architectures and market developments / innovations to identify and discuss architectural improvement opportunities and supporting operational programs / initiatives to improve network performances
Participating in regular vendor or internal meetings, technical summits, international conferences etc. and supporting international standardisation bodies.
Liberty Global operates access networks across 12 European Countries passing some 50 million homes and supporting in excess of 50 million RGUs on access infrastructure
Physical location is not determined
The Liberty Global access organisation comprises close to 1000 employees and is responsible for architecting, engineering and building up to 2 million new homes on an annual basis along while ensuring that sufficient access capacity is delivered on the network annually to meet our customers short and medium term capacity growth needs
Liberty Global has architecture functions across multiple departments including Access, Core and Technology. As such interworking with and transparency to and from these functional departments will be part of the modus operandi
Thorough understanding of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) including related architectural frameworks, their building blocks and functions
Thorough understanding of currently used access network technologies like DOCSIS, xPON or Active Ethernet, their architectures / components / capabilities / protocols and how to transform them towards virtualized network architectures including e.
g. vCCAP / Split MAC / vOLT / vSwitches etc.
Thorough understanding of operational and technical business advantages / disadvantages of proprietary versus open source SDN / NFV hardware / software solutions.
Deep knowledge about market trends, main streams and their supporting vendors or communities in both market segments.
Thorough understanding of future service requirements regarding latency, bandwidth and reliability in fixed and mobile market segments and how to architect supporting access networks and to transform existing network architectures cost efficient towards uRLLC networks
Thorough understanding of uRLLC network requirements on the passive infrastructure especially Edge Computing regarding space, power, cooling etc.
and the requirement impact of future technology developments versus traffic growth
Thorough understanding of the architectural impact on CAPEX / OPEX investments and operational efforts on e.g. Platform and service availability, truck rolls, customer calls to maintain deployed architectures and influencing operational KPIs / NPS scores in the context of a long term view.
Thorough understanding of the current technical infrastructure of our Access network and its capabilities along with a good understanding of its interoperability with north bounded Core systems and IT OSS and NMS.
Thorough End2End understanding of Voice, Data and Video Service Requirements and service impacting architectural factors beyond the Access Network boundaries from signal processing up to customer service delivery
Thorough understanding of analogue and digital transport / transmission technologies also beyond the Access Network boundaries.
