The Mathematical Institute at Utrecht University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to work with Dr Ivan Kryven in a project on random spatial networks and algorithms.
The position has a fixed term of 1 year with a preferred starting date in October 2020.
You will conduct research in random graphs that are simultaneously defined by topological and metric constraints, as well as on new algorithms for construction of such graphs with an aim to inspire improvements in numerical methods for large scale molecular simulations.
You will also contribute to the activities of the research group.
As the postdoctoral researcher you will be part of :
conducting research in the area of geometric random graphs and algorithms;
collaborating in the preparation of research publications;
contributing to the academic activities at the Mathematical Institute;
contributing to the supervision of doctoral students (if desired);
developing ideas for generating research income, for which support will be provided (if desired).
Our ideal candidate :
has or is close to completing, a PhD in applied mathematics or a related discipline, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in stochastic analysis, statistical physics and / or continuous optimisation;
has prior experience at least in one of the following areas : random graphs, generative algorithms for networks, many-body dynamical systems, molecular simulations;
has previous experience of contributing to publications and possess excellent communication skills.
A position for 1 year doing full-time research;
the opportunity to gain research experience in a friendly and inspiring international environment;
