Editors are responsible for managing an assigned list of open access and hybrid journals within medicine and life sciences group, working as part of the team to grow the portfolio through strategic journal development and acquisitions.
Editors are expected develop the portfolio through creating and implementing data-driven journal development plans for all titles in the program.
As the primary publishing contact for assigned journals, Editors are expected to further build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including editors, editorial board members, reviewers, authors and society partners.
The Editors will also work closely with colleagues across the business including Editorial Operations, JEO, Production, Sales, Marketing, Rights & Licensing, Legal, and Research Integrity to drive and maintain overall operations and performance against targets and KPIs.
Editors may manage more complex journals or more sensitive relationships, with an awareness of how plans relate to the wider business.
Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with academic Editors, Editorial Boards, society executives and other key contacts in the field, with the aim of building and maintaining the journals’ reputation and increasing submissions.
Build knowledge of the field and the relevant scientific communities to identify development opportunities and translate them into actions to maintain a competitive advantage.
This will involve engaging with senior scientists and obtaining their advice.
Produce and implement journal development plans for the journals.
Work with members of the Medicine & Life Sciences team to acquire new journals in this area
Monitor peer-review performance for the portfolio and assist colleagues in dealing with author queries or problem manuscripts.
Plan and drive the commissioning of content including pro-actively suggesting topics
Support the management of the journals by being the primary contact for academic editors and handling contract renewals
Ensure the journals are promoted through all relevant avenues
Organize and host Editorial Board meetings
Represent the company at scientific conferences when required to improve market knowledge, to network within the community, receive feedback on the journals and to promote Springer Nature journals and open access
Educated to degree level
Previous experience working in the publishing industry (desirable)
