Our Finance & Projects Practice in Amsterdam are looking for a Banking Associate (3 - 6 years’ experience).

Linklaters’ banking practice in Amsterdam advises on a variety of banking and finance-related transactions, advising the lenders and borrowers.

We advise on a broad range of banking and finance transactions, from individual lending transactions to loan portfolio transfers and regulatory challenges affecting institutions’ loan books.

One team acts on both new loans and on their restructuring, should the borrower become distressed. Advising on both Dutch and English law from Amsterdam, we act for banks, credit funds, equity sponsors and companies.

Key Responsibilities and Challenges

  • Excellent understanding of Dutch commercial law
  • Drafting and reviewing documentation with regard for more than the pure legal angle, appreciating legal and commercial arguments and client goals.
  • Playing a central role in delivering transactions, also under significant time pressure.
  • Exceeding client expectations by anticipating client needs and resolving problems.
  • Building and maintaining co-operative, communicative relationships with the client team.
  • Maintaining knowledge of latest commercial and legal intelligence or market situation and its impact on the business.
  • Participating in recruitment initiatives, client marketing and developing networks with other professionals, participating at conferences or professional organisations.
  • Identifying opportunities for and being proactive in obtaining further work.
  • Characteristics, Skills & Experience required

  • 3 6 years’ working experience as a banking lawyer, preferably in an international environment
  • Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to assimilate and process information quickly.
  • Ability to respond very quickly under pressure.
  • Networking skills.
  • Ability to influence using appropriate techniques.
  • Formulating answers for clients at short notice, and sometimes without full knowledge of the facts or area of law, demonstrating commercial awareness and an entreupreneurial’ style.
