The work of the Climate Resilience (CR) team is organised around three themes : "nature-based solutions", "resilient cities", and "climate services".

The focus is on an integral approach to climate change issues and nature-inclusive climate adaptation and mitigation solutions.

These themes are inextricably linked. Over the coming period, the CR team will focus on further developing these three themes in a future-proof mix of assignments.

The CR team has the ambition to be a resilient team that can handle disruptions to the market and internal changes. Recently, a number of enthusiastic new colleagues have been recruited.

These will find their place in the team in the coming months. Reinforcing the team spirit, strengthening acquisition capacity, and further developing personal leadership should be important points of attention for the team leader.

As team leader, you will focus on the sustainable employability of your employees. You will have an eye for individual ambitions and development opportunities of employees and you will be able to create synergy within the team.

You will also be responsible for safeguarding scientific quality, the relevance of the research, and the financial results of the team.

You will guide your employees in the further development of the three core themes "nature-based solutions", "resilient cities", and "climate services".

You and your team will contribute to the realisation of the strategy of ESG (particularly acquisition), especially with regard to the Green Climate Solutions program.

You will promote the collaboration of researchers within the team, and you will focus on collaboration with other teams at Wageningen Environmental Research, relevant chair groups at Wageningen University, and other sciences groups at Wageningen University and Research.

As a team leader you will take part in the Wageningen Environmental Research team leader meeting and report to the ESG management council.

  • An inspiring connector who has a coaching style of leadership;

  • Someone with at least 5 years of relevant experience in managing professionals and extensive research projects in a field relevant to this team;
  • Someone with a thorough knowledge of climate issues in the Netherlands, Europe, and the rest of the world and with a vision for the subject of "climate resilience";
  • Someone with knowledge of policy development who can bridge the gap between science and policy makers;
  • Someone able to respond strategically to developments within the professional field in the market, nationally and internationally;
  • Someone with a national and international network in the professional field;
  • An enterprising, customer- and result-oriented colleague with an eye for quality;
  • Good at acquisition and its management;
  • Academically trained and with at least five years of research experience in a field relevant to this team.
  • Conditions of employment

    Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include :

  • In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €4.

    369 and €6.602,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 13). Additionally, a contract for 32 hours is possible.

    The CR team develops and applies scientific knowledge related to climate change, the effects of climate change, and climate adaptation and mitigation.

    The CR team collaborates with its customers and partners on science-based and socially inclusive solutions for a climate-proof and resilient rural and urban area.

    The CR team conducts explorations, provides advice and evaluations for Dutch and foreign governments, companies, NGOs, and other social organisations, therefore contributing to the challenges and transitions our world faces.

    The team consists of 17 people and specialises in various topics that are all related to the pursuit of climate-proof urban and rural areas. These topics include :

  • The integral design of nature-inclusive adaptation measures in urban and rural areas;
  • Developing the Netherlands 2120 concept for cities and regions;
  • Research into nature-based adaptation measures for climate-resilient and circular food systems;
  • Research and providing recommendations on how to deal with bottlenecks that stand in the way of the climate transition;
  • The use of climate data and climate scenarios to model the effects of climate change on crop growth, sectors, food chains and companies;
  • Use of climate data and climate scenarios to design and implement sustainable / nature-inclusive climate adaptation measures;
  • Capacity building related to the use of (Copernicus) climate data and information.
