Scientist AT - Laser Expert - Transmission Electron Microscopy
Fisher Clinical Services
Eindhoven, Netherlands
3 dagen geleden

In the Advanced Technology group in Eindhoven we are looking for a scientist with expertise in laser light optical systems and optical cavities to be used for the phase-manipulation of high-energy electrons using ultra-intense light inside a transmission electron microscope (TEM).

Check out these video’s and our landing page to get more insight into what it means to work on our complex High-Tech Transmission Electron Microscopes.

These high-end tools are being produced in our cleanrooms in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

Advanced Technology (AT) is a functional R&D unit within the Materials and Structural analysis Division (MSD) division of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The Advanced Technology group is responsible for sourcing & landscaping new technology trends in the context of our strategic business ambitions within a 3-5 year time horizon, initiating and executing technology projects internally and with help of external partners, and transferring results into further New Product Development (NPD).

Topics of interest range from electron and ion microscopy core technologies, to new applications of data sciences and sample work-flow investigations around our structural and materials analysis tools.

The scientist will start as part of a small research team of electron optics and mechanics experts and develop and validate the prototype of a so-called laser phase plate.

The Laser Phase Plate project is a collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, which recently established a world record with the highest intensity in a laser system and demonstrated that this can be used to enhance electron-phase contrast ().

The scientist will be responsible for the light optics and optical cavity aspects of the prototype system and test and validate the technology on a transmission electron microscope.

Next to playing a key role in the laser phase plate project the scientist is expected to grow the domain of light optics in combination with electron microscopy and / or related technologies.

More generally, the scientist will define and execute projects of the AT research program and will manage these from start to finish.

The decisions made by the scientist and the project team will have direct and longer term business impact. The challenge will be to create technological complex products, meeting the needs of all stakeholders, combining short term goals with long term needs.

We seek a hand-on scientist with an innovative mindset for executing programs that will create differentiators for our future electron microscopy products.

Duties and responsibilities
