As a Project Manager of the Virology section (Department BHS) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine you will play a crucial role in supporting the lead scientists in their research on coronaviruses.

You will, among other things, manage the administrative processes surrounding several large grants, help writing (scientific) reports and quotations, help structuring and coordinating internal processes and assist the lead scientists so that they can focus on science.

The Virology section is one of the world-leading groups in fundamental research on coronaviruses, the influenza virus and picornaviruses.

Recently, several grant applications have been awarded, including EU grants, TKI LSH Health Holland PPP grants, and a large IMI consortium on therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2).

Additionally, together with UU business developers, we have several interactions with pharmaceutical industries. The section has grown rapidly with many new colleagues and additional laboratories.

As a Project Manager you will be part of this. Someone who is stress-proof, flexible and proactive. Someone who sees what work should / could be done and tackles it. You have a background in life sciences, preferably in biomolecular sciences.

A PhD is a big plus. You enjoy working in a dynamic, innovative, and high-pressure environment. You are capable of monitoring project progress and acting on it.

You work independently, proactively and have a high sense of responsibility. You are flexible and have good analytical and organizational skills.

You are able to communicate verbally and in writing at different (international) levels, both in English and in Dutch. Knowledge of and experience with intellectual property, patents and licenses is a plus.

Conditions of employment We offer a challenging position (0.8-1.0 FTE), initially for a period of one year, with the prospect of extension, in a dynamic and professional environment with plenty of room for initiative and entrepreneurship.

Development meetings and continuous feedback are obvious, and you will be given the opportunity to follow UU Development programme trainings.

The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €3,746 and €5,826 (scale 11 / 12 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment.

Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. In addition, Utrecht University offers excellent secondary conditions, including an attractive retirement scheme, (partly paid) parental leave and flexible employment conditions (multiple choice model).

Researchers from the Virology section work together in an innovative scientific research environment with other groups at a national level e.

g. in the Netherlands Centre for One Health (NCOH) - as well as internationally to tackle the global risks of (re)emerging infectious diseases in animals and humans.

In our research on coronaviruses, we have made seminal contributions to understanding the coronavirus structure, the identification of receptors, and entry mechanisms.

Recently, we also identified the first therapeutic human monoclonal antibody that can neutralize SARS-CoV-2.
