Your function within the department

The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) is the only comprehensive cancer center in The Netherlands (Amsterdam). It is a well-

organized and dynamic institute accommodating over 50 research groups and advanced core facilities. It is an internationally renowned center covering fundamental, translational and clinical cancer research.

The department of Radiology, led by Professor R. Beets-Tan, pursues research in oncological imaging. Imaging of colorectal carcinoma represents the most prominent and world renowned investigation led within our group.

Several researchers and clinicians have actively participated in this study, resulting so far in nine doctoral thesis, 75 high impact publications and many contributions to national and international congresses.

Furthermore, the results of this study have been used as basis for several guidelines in the area of rectal carcinoma, including the Dutch national guideline and two European consensus papers.

As part of our research, our aim is to improve current imaging procedures, as well as to develop image-based methods to assist clinicians in the prescription of targeted, optimal treatments.

We recognize, at the same time, the vitality of a multidisciplinary research environment, where experts from different fields can freely collaborate to ultimately improve the quality of the medical research.

For this reasons, we offer a full-time postdoc position in quantitative imaging. We particularly encourage professionals with technical background to apply.

Your Role

As Senior Postdoc, you have a key role in the coordination of the technical research related to oncological imaging. You will be responsible to develop novel methods to improve the current imaging techniques.

The large variety of topics will require a creative and enthusiastic mind capable of designing and implementing new strategies to solve complex problems within an interdisciplinary environment.

To this end you will work with a team of physicists, medical doctors, technicians, and programmers. Additionally, you will be required to supervise PhD students in quantitative imaging, medical physics and / or biomedical computing.

The work takes place within the department of radiology.

Your profile

We seek an enthusiastic senior Postdoc to coordinate a technical research track within our department in support to the principal oncological research.

The candidate should have been promoted in the field of medical physics with strong experience in image pre- and post-processing, or biomedical computing / biomathematics with a solid background of MR physics and experience in development of acquisition protocols.

You can work independently and have the skills to work in a multidisciplinary team. You have experience in supervision of students in research projects you are able to translate often complex solutions from research into a clear clinical application.


  • PhD in medical physics, biomedical computing, medical informatics, biomathematics or similar
  • Experience in image analysis, especially in pre and post-processing
  • Experience in development of acquisition protocols
  • Achievements in research and teaching with international publications in the fields of quantitative imaging, medical physics and / or biomedical computing.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary and multi-professional cooperation
  • English proficiency
  • Knowledge of Dutch language is beneficial
