Role description :

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Biologist / Ecologist to join our environmental permitting / ecological services team in Louisiana.

The position can be located in either our Baton Rouge or Metairie office, but remote work opportunities will also be considered.

The position will assist with field biology, environmental assessment, and permit compliance and will support numerous client sectors for a variety of capital improvement, maintenance, and remediation projects.

Role accountabilities :

  • Conducting desktop assessments and field surveys (e.g., habitat evaluations and presence / absence surveys) to evaluate potential project impacts to sensitive habitats or special status species
  • Leading wetland and ordinary high water mark delineations and functional assessments (e.g., Rapid Assessment Methodology or Hydrogeomorphic Methodology), authoring associated reports, and coordinating agency approval
  • Working with the Arcadis and client teams to develop project implementation and permitting strategies to efficiently comply with state and federal laws and regulations (e.
  • g., Endangered Species Acts, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act)

  • Preparation of regulatory permit application packages (e.g., US Army Corps of Engineers Clean Water Act Section 404 permit applications, USACE 408 review requests, Louisiana Coastal Use Permit applications including joint permit applications, 401 Water Quality Certification applications, and Section 402 NPDES permit applications)
  • Preparation of technical reports such as species surveys, mitigation and monitoring plans, and biological assessments
  • Monitoring of mitigation sites (including hydrology and vegetation studies)
  • Inspecting construction sites for permit compliance
  • Periodic travel (up to 50% of the time)
  • Work in inclement weather (often hot, humid, or wet) and over difficult or rough terrain
  • Qualifications & Experience :

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology / Ecology or related field
  • 4 or more years of experience in the biological or environmental field
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with evaluating project compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
  • Experience with Louisiana wetland field ecology and permitting
  • Knowledge of regional Louisiana ecology, sensitive habitats, and special status species
  • Experience in the environmental consulting industry
  • 2 years minimum of experience providing environmental inspection services for natural gas pipeline construction projects
  • Previous experience for natural gas pipeline projects including overseeing contractor implementation of environmental conditions and mitigation measures as set forth in permits, plans and procedures, the FERC Certificate, and all other permits, clearances, or other authorizing documents
