Purpose Statement :

The Cloud Admin turns the designs and strategy into workable automations and catalogue items within the cloud stack. This include ensuring all monittoing compliance controls are in place and to the highest standard.

Aglie and gifted Specialist with a drive to succeed and a mantra of nothing is impossible.

Main Responsibilities :

  • Provide operational & technical support & maintenance for Cloud based platforms across the Liberty Global group.
  • Operational, initiative and project-based activities.
  • Availability management adhering to business defined SLA’s.
  • Preventative systems maintenance, including patch management, security management & system integrity checking.
  • Cloud system builds ensuring server hardening procedures are followed in line with documented process
  • Cloud system decommissions ensuring data destruction procedures are followed in line with documented process.
  • Pro-active systems performance capacity management.
  • Pro-active systems obsolescence management.
  • Extensive automation scripting using various tools and technologies.
  • Participate in vendor service reviews.
  • Testing Disaster Recovery ability.
  • Providing Cloud technical support & guidance to application support teams.
  • 24 x 7 Callout to support the cloud platform
  • Take personal ownership of tasks & work streams delegated by manager and manage through to completion with an emphasis on timely closure.
  • Ensure operational processes are defined and continuously reviewed with supporting version-controlled documentation.
  • Regular travel to Liberty Global sites, unsociable hours & overnight stays where appropriate.
  • Occasional travel to offsite vendor locations for service reviews and / or technology briefings.
  • Contribute to and has ownership of, both individual & team objectives.
  • Ensure problem & request related work is channelled via appropriate systems so that reporting stats can be measured.
  • Ability to manage time effectively & prioritize both operational and project workloads.
  • Provide activity-based reporting at intervals defined by manager and / or team leader.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards e.g. ITIL, Sarbanes Oxley, ISO 17799, COBIT & auditing authorities (internal & external).
  • Taking timely action to remedy any deficiencies and / or risk areas.

  • Context / Environment :

  • Position is based at Schiphol-Rijk in The Netherlands.
  • Position has an international focus with frequent contact required across countries, mainly European, occasionally international.
  • Occasional travel may be needed.

    Knowledge, Skills & Experience :

    Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science or other technical subject) OR comparable.
  • Very strong English language skills (written & verbal) with (preferred) second European language (Dutch; German; other).
  • Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal), with the ability to communicate confidently, effectively and concisely.
  • Good communication skills are essential coupled with the ability to question any query to fully understand the requirement.

  • Solid understanding of IT Operational processes : Change; Incident; Release; Problem management. ITIL certification preferred.
  • Solid background in hands-on (keyboard) administration within IT Infrastructure and Operations.
  • Solid skills within financial business processes - procurement & budget.
  • Solid understanding of information technology and the link between business processes, people and systems and how Infrastructure supports them.
  • Broad awareness preferred of the Telco world - cable, mobile and IP network technologies together with their IT solutions CRM, Billing, Web, ERP, BSS / OSS Telco systems.
  • Able to translate requests from the non-IT community into IT technical language (and vice-versa).
  • Pro-active individual - able to see issues and suggest solutions before they arise.
  • Solid analytical skills; the ability to see both the helicopter view and dive down to detail when needed.
  • Pride in work but pragmatic where needed.
  • Able to quickly dive in to support others, a helpful can-do approach.
  • Significant exposure to complex Infrastructure design and architecture knowledge of the latest industry trends in these areas an advantage.
  • Self-starter that excels in a fast paced and evolving environment and with a drive to succeed - timid mice need not apply
  • Experience of managing web / portal hosting technologies with technical exposure to Apache / Tomcat
  • A proficient skill set & working knowledge of Scripting.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux, Windows and hypervisor technologies
  • In depth knowledge of cloud automation products such as vRealize Automation
  • In depth knowledge of VRealize Operations, VRrealize business
  • In depth knowledge of automation products such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef
  • Knowledge of SCCM
  • Analyse current implementations and understand where Cloud and DevOps can bring benefits to the business, being able to explain this to all relevant stakeholders (including non-technical clients)
  • Design, document, implement and manage cloud-based solutions to infrastructure
  • Design, document, implement and manage server installations (using tools such as Chef, Puppet and Ansible etc ) to provide web hosting, analytics, batch and other services including configuration management and failover mechanisms
  • Knowledge of SCCM
  • Analyse current implementations and understand where Cloud and DevOps can bring benefits to the business, being able to explain this to all relevant stakeholders (including non-technical clients)
  • Design, document, implement and manage cloud-based solutions to infrastructure

  • Experience

  • At least 5 years solid hands-on IT Infrastructure administration. This should be one (and preferably more) of System; Network;
  • Database; Office Enterprise; etc administration skills within at least 2 large IT organisations.

  • Allied to the above, solid and demonstrable experience of IT Production technologies, operations & processes.
  • Significant Production large-scale Data Centre experience.
  • Industry experience within at least 2 large international organisations, preferably 1 Telco.
  • Preferred project management exposure / awareness (certification not required). An awareness of agile (scrum) methodologies would be useful.
  • Solid knowledge of audit and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOx) processes.
  • Exposure to any of the following technologies is a plus : Oracle Engineered systems; x86 hardware (stand-alone; blade;
  • building block); Storage & Backup (EMC, NetApp, Hitachi, NetBackup, Avamar); Virtualisation (VMware, OVM); Tooling & Monitoring (DCIM tools, Nagios, BMC CLM, VMware);
  • Network (Cisco, F5); etc.
