Analytical Instruments Group - Materials & Structural Analysis Division

Our Thermo Scientific brand in the analytical instruments group offers customers in research, academic, industrial and applied markets a complete range of high-

end analytical instruments as well as laboratory equipment, software and services. In the materials and structural analysis division we design, manufacture, and support the broadest range of high-

performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. Combining hardware and software expertise in electron, ion, FTIR, NIR, NMR UV / VIS and light microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics, and natural resources markets.

Our laboratory elemental analyzers use x-ray fluoresce (XRD), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and arc spark optical emission (EOS) techniques for precise analysis of bulk materials in the metals, cement, minerals and petrochemicals industries.

Our material characterization instruments include rheometers and extruders that measure viscosity, elasticity, process ability and temperature related material changes of various materials.

    The Position

    Participate as System Engineer in Camera development projects within Thermofisher Data and Acquisition program or with partners, focused on one of Thermofisher product platforms.

    The project responsibilities are multi-disciplinary, i.e. hardware as well as Software and include :

  • Create detailed Engineering Requirements Documents based on marketing requirements. Interact with and understand customers and their needs.
  • Assist Program Managers in negotiating engineering response to marketing requirements resulting in focused plans for a new product, feature or enhancement.

  • Actively participation in verification of requirements and problem solving.
  • Work with management to ensure a robust platform and development process. Promote the re-use of components and designs between product lines and efficient use of engineering resources.
  • Work with Operations from the early stage of each development to take both manufacturing and service requirements into account in project plans.
  • Assist in the sustaining of existing products in customer escalations.

  • The Requirements

  • Typically requires a University Degree in engineering (physics, electronics or related discipline) and approximately 5 years of experience.
  • An advanced degree and multi-disciplinary knowledge is preferred. Ability to work in complex engineering programs and to understand the technology included in our products.
  • Proven experience in systems and sub systems developments including system design, integration, verification (Hardware and Software), error budgeting, and analysis.
  • Experience with requirement management and test tools and Python is a plus.

  • Experience from several full product life cycles. Ability to analyze how key sub systems can be used in next generation products.
  • Knowledge about image sensors, detector technologies, image processing and image acquisition is required, not only from technology point of view, but also on manufacturing as well as on product integration aspects.
