Job description

The Department of Health Technology and Services Research at the University of Twente is part of the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences and embedded in the Technical Medical Center (TechMed).

At HTSR we focus on assessing and optimizing the impact of new health technology on clinical and health outcomes, quality and safety of health care, delivery of health care services, and the associated health care costs.

The organization of the health care system and patient values are an integral part of our research. HTSR consists of a multidisciplinary team with expertise in health technology assessment / health economics, epidemiology, data science, patient preferences and simulation modeling.

We particularly focus on the clinical areas of cardiovascular disease and oncology. Strong ties with large health care organizations are present to ensure successful collaborative research in the field of healthcare.

Throughout the world, health care systems face challenges that can only be handled by (further) improving the efficiency of interventions, processes and organizations.

This requires optimal use of existing health care resources as well as optimal implementation of new efficient technological innovations.

We are searching for an ambitious new colleague who is able to expand our expertise in health economics / (early) health technology assessment (HTA).

As assistant professor you will bring in quantitative and methodological expertise. Your knowledge of simulation modeling techniques, such as Markov models, Discrete Event Simulation, System Dynamics, and Agent-

based Modeling, as well as knowledge of optimization algorithms, will further strengthen our department. With your skills you will build the link between the HTSR and the IEBIS (Industrial Engineering and Business Information Systems) departments.

Furthermore, you will actively instruct bachelor and master courses. You will be working in an international environment and use quantitative decision analytic models to support decision-

making at clinical and policy levels and to optimize health care processes.

We particularly seek to develop cross-links with adjacent areas such as (health) systems engineering and mixed modeling’ (combining decision-

making on individual, organizational, and societal level) to map the consequences of technology implementation on health service delivery.

Applying (medical) informatics and data science, and making use of big data, will provide the evidence to populate such models and will provide key health care insights.

By interacting with researchers from various UT departments you will open a new field of research combining evaluation of health care innovations with optimization of their intended use in clinical practice.

Given the interests of the departments involved, we expect you to support our work on evaluation of imaging and diagnostics in general and modeling of personalized medicine strategies in particular

Your profile

  • You hold a PhD in (medical) informatics, (health) economics, econometrics, industrial engineering, operations research, applied mathematics, or similar quantitative field;
  • You have a strong interest in operating at crossroads of different disciplines;
  • You have knowledge of and shown experience in the field of health economics / HTA;
  • You have good communication skills, English at C2 level;
  • To facilitate the professional development and quality of teaching, you are required to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ).
  • We expect that you will shape your professional development as a lecturer;
  • You enjoy teaching and developing creative new teaching elements;
  • Are you up for the challenge to improve the world with your research as well as teaching ?
