Do you have a proven track record of scaling and growing a design team efficiently? Are you comfortable working in the field and in the boardroom?

Can you approach projects systemically and are you able to see the big picture while still paying attention to the details?

We are looking for a Design Program Director who can own and scale design operations at Mendix. Your work will be instrumental to take the R&D design team to the next level of maturity Responsibilities : You will establish thought leadership and knowledge within the core of design-centric operations, concentrating on the design craft and design culture within R&D.

You have extensive experience and history working as individual contributor to provide mentorship and coaching on design matters.

You provide the environment in which designers can deliver the best results, both in speed and quality, and enable them to do their best work.

Your work will focus on initiatives that impact the whole design team within the R&D organization. You will foster and strengthen Mendix’s existing culture, improve design processes and collaboration, and ensure design operates smoothly and makes an impact in all R&D Units.

You know the importance of building bridges within and outside of the team and evangelize the value of product design, service design, and user experience research.

You facilitate co-creation workshops with business stakeholders, product managers, architects, developers, design managers, product designers, service designers, and UX researchers to lead them in the right direction in decisions towards the best possible operational maturity.

The objectives of the Mendix Design Program are in short : Vision & Strategy Scale the design organization ·Translate the long-term vision for scaling design into strategic goals and priorities·Define and measure success metrics and support and streamline OKR setting·Drive programs that elevate the design maturity of the R&D units Communication & Collaboration - Advocate for design across the organization ·Establish rituals and communication structures that keep relevant stakeholders engaged and informed·Foster optimal collaboration between design, product, and engineering roles·Define the rules of engagement for collaboration across teams and functions Craft & Practice Make designers and researchers better ·Inspire and support designers and researcher in their professional growth ·Co-create processes where needed that can be adopted at scale·Publish, maintain, and distribute a repository of methodologies, processes, documentation templates and standards Design & Research Program Make designers and researchers more effective ·Own Design Systems and Content Frameworks beyond Mendix R&D·Facilitate alignment between the different design functions and guilds·Support staffing, planning, and prioritization across units and teams People & Culture Make designers and researchers happier ·Run internal surveys to gather feedback on behaviors, individual and team performance·Own internal training and learning frameworks·Hire a world-class team by elevating the hiring process Design team : The Design team is a distributed team across units in Boston, Pune, Shanghai, and Rotterdam, with many disciplines.

From user experience research and service design to brand and product design, the Mendix design team is filled with creatives focused on elevating the user experience across our products.

We believe that collaboration across the whole organization is the key to our success and have centralized partnerships with all R&D groups and units.

Experience :

  • 10+ years of professional experience as an individual design contributor
  • 3+ years of experience on a director level
  • Proven track record of shipped services and products in multiple countries
  • Demonstrated experience scaling design operations
  • Deep expertise in human-centered design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to challenge others with creative ideas to get the best results
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently but also collaborative and driven by group critique
  • An understanding of computational concepts like object-oriented programming
