This is the role

The Commercial Manager, CCS (Carbon capture and storage) and Hydrogen is responsible for the development and execution of the LyondellBasell global commercial strategy in the Carbon Capture and Hydrogen space.

The Commercial Manager’s focus will be development and execution of strategy, positioning our company within chosen CCS and / or Hydrogen projects and / or consortia, to be ready to implement Hydrogen and CCS projects at company sites, with a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the project(s) involved including commercial, partners, project structure risks, optionalities, economics, benefits and cost performance.

This position will collaborate actively with internal stakeholders throughout the various functions and businesses.

He / she will be the Hydrogen CCS Team focal point within the CRP program, interfacing with the site decarbonization roadmap initiatives.

This position will interface externally with Commercial Providers, Forum and Consortium (WEF, Hydrogen Council), Consultants, Government Regulators, Industry Associations and other potential partners along the value chain.

The individual in this position must possess a span of knowledge which would allow for sufficient review, both economic and risk, of the key technologies and pathways for decarbonization and / or the energy transition.

The individual must have an understanding of the evolving commercial and industry CCS / H2 landscape as well as strong skills in the areas of strategic vision and thinking, risk, technical and economics assessment, collaboration (multi-functional and cross-geographic), communication, organization and drive for results.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Monitor the evolving landscape in the Hydrogen and Carbon Capture space
  • Develop relationships and assessment of the main consortia, projects and providers in the CCS space, in order to define appropriate LYB participation.
  • Liaise with the R&D team on Green, Blue and Turquoise Hydrogen technologies while developing commercial relationships.
  • Monitor the Methane pyrolysis commercial (SMR) landscape and assess the relevance of the key technologies in future LYB decarbonization roadmaps
  • Assess post combustion CC technologies, with specific focus on adsorption to determine relevance to LYB decarbonization roadmaps
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for involvement in CCS or H2 partnerships and consortia, defining the appropriate strategy.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and build an effective network. Key external stakeholders include : Commercial Providers Forum and Consortium, Venture Capital and Funds, Universities, Government regulators, Industry associations , Non-Governmental Alliances, and other potential partners along the value chain.
  • Key internal stakeholders include : global and regional procurement, O&P and I&D business management, R&D, manufacturing, SP&T, supply chain, legal, government affairs, corporate communications, and finance.

  • Consider in commercial evaluation opportunities, benefits and risks. Ensure well managed and appropriate balance between risk and reward.
  • Willing to think broadly in seeking solutions.

  • Display agility and appropriate sense of urgency in order to operate as quickly and effectively as possible in achieving targets.
  • Represent LYB as appropriate in external forums, alliances, industry associations and with lawmakers
  • This is what you bring

  • University degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, chemistry, commercial and energy management, or other related disciplines
  • Master degree in Business preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years gained in the petrochemical or steel / aluminum or energy / utilities or technical / engineering & construction companies, having developed a proven significant exposure to decarbonization and low carbon technologies.
  • A specific experience in the hydrogen and / or carbon capture space will be a plus.

  • Experience in project development and / or analysis, preferable in a multi stakeholder (e.g. consortia) environment.
  • Fluent in English
