The finance function supports business areas across the organisation; with teams focused on Media, Events, Data, Spaces & Advisory.
A smaller central team manages the consolidation of results and reporting to management and stakeholders.
As our new Business Controller, you will oversee the business and financial management operations. You act like a consultant and partner up with other functions outside of the finance department.
You will drive growth by acting as a financial steward, providing analytical insights and key financial and operational performance metrics to key people, while supporting and reporting to CFO.
Your tasks and responsibilities
Developing KPI reporting, combining financial data with data from the BU’s in order to provide key stakeholders with meaningful information to drive strategy & decision-making.
Management of annual budgeting and quarterly re-forecasting process, providing templates and guidance to the BU & commercial heads to facilitate their involvement, acting as a liaison point between Finance and Commercial and collecting and collating information from a wide range of sources to pull the overall budget together, sufficiently challenging the numbers where necessary.
Overall responsibility for the management accounts (management information) process, including ensuring timely and accurate submission of month end financial data to Central Reporting and to the business, as well as production of the monthly management accounts pack.
Process owner of all weekly, monthly and ad-hoc reporting for Business Units and Divisions.
Manage the month end P&L reporting process.
Liaise with the Financial Times Finance Team on expected performance of the business.
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with the BU / department heads and their team, ensuring that you develop a deep understanding of their objectives and provide financial / commercial support in order to help them achieve these.
Ensure financial awareness is high throughout the division with provision of ad hoc training and support.
Developing and giving presentations to stakeholders.
Development of reporting and the underlying processes, using proficiency in Excel, to deliver efficiencies that are transferable and add value.
Taking actions to realize a continuous improvement of budget controlling process.
Provide ad hoc reporting and analysis as required by the CFO, including business modelling and scenario planning.
Working closely with the sales team and BU heads to ensure is correctly and in time billing for all products and services.
Act as the key finance stakeholder on all projects to improve the process.
Working in a team with a Financial Controller (Amsterdam), Management Accountants (Manila) and affiliated to a Finance Manager of FT (London), directly reporting to the CFO (Amsterdam).
Your experience and knowledge
Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or similar (Ideally qualified - RC / CMA).
3 to 5+ years of experience in a business controlling role, preferably with experience in a similar sector.
Strong quantitative abilities and financial modeling experience.
Advanced Excel skills.
Knowledge of IFRS accounting policies are a plus
